ORTHODONTIC INFORMATION:
COMMON ORTHODONTIC EMERGENCIES AND WHAT TO DO:
As our practice will be closed over the Christmas holiday stat days, we want to ensure that you have the information and resources you need to manage your orthodontic care during this time.
Handling Orthodontic Emergencies:
While true emergencies are rare, here are tips for common issues:
Loose Brackets or Bands:
If a bracket comes loose but remains attached to the wire, leave it in place and cover it with orthodontic wax if it causes discomfort.
If the bracket falls off completely, store it in a safe place to bring to your next appointment.
Poking Wires:
Use a blunt instrument, like the eraser end of a pencil, to gently push the wire back into place.
Cover the wire with orthodontic wax to reduce irritation until we reopen.
Lost or Broken Retainers/aligners:
Continue wearing any spare retainers you have to maintain alignment.
Contact us as soon as we re-open to replace broken or lost retainers.
Issues with Palate Expansion Plates:
If the plate becomes loose, try winding screw back a few times to refit, push it back into place gently.
If the palate expander screw has been fully expanded (maxed out), stop turning the screw and continue to wear as instructed. Do not attempt to turn it further. If wearing it during the day becomes too uncomfortable, you may switch to wearing it at night only until we can assess it when the office reopens.
If a key for the expander is lost, either improvise with a similar device at your home or call in to pick up a replacement during our opening hours.
Please email – care@quindental.nz our clinic with details of issue and we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
Have a wonderful summer holiday and we look forward to seeing your beaming smiles soon!
